Record Story Day 2018

May 11, 2018

I just realized I didn't post from Record Store Day 2017, but you can find posts from 2015 & 2016 here.

This year was much more tame than the past few years. Typically, we'll stop at a plethora of shops, and spend the majority of our time in Wicker Park. This year, we did a lot more walking than we did shopping, which my bank account really appreciates. We started off in Wicker Park at Reckless Records. They had a live band playing, but I didn't catch the name of them. This is where a bulk of my purchases came from. I bought Mac DeMarco's 2 Demos on cassette, Death Cab's Forbidden Love EP, and three hand drawn Bowie pins by MakemTakem.

I think the only other shop we stopped in while we were in Wicker Park was Ragstock, a store I first discovered at Woodfield Mall. It bridges a gap between a thrift store, and a typical retail store. They sell vintage items, costumes clothes, and it's the ambiance is so open and cool. I bought this planet necklace that reminds me of the song from the Disney Channel movie Zenon.

Our next stop was going to be Record Breakers, which is located above Reggie's Rock Club, but when we got there there were no records? So, we decided to visit Chinatown instead. For someone who is trying to lose some weight, I bought an awful lot of cakes in Chinatown.

After this, we decided to head back home. Overall, I'd say the day was a success. We bought some hidden treasures, alongside enjoying great food and a beautiful temperature. I love that this day has become somewhat of a holiday for me, and I'm looking forward to next year.
